We finally have an update!

After long flights, 3 days of driving, getting sick, and waking up at 2am everyday (due to time change); the Benkert Family is finally at the orphanage and has settled into a home. Unfortunately the internet has been there, therefore Levi has been unable to post on the blog. There spirits are up and excited to jump into care taking. There has been so much anticipation up until this point; they are so glad to finally hold the kids.

The kids in the orphanage seem to be doing fairly well. However, one of the kids has a pretty serious ear infection, there are some colds going around, and another is having very real emotional problems. These precious children have so many needs and we are only now starting to be able to meet them.

Now that Levi is on the ground and able to asses the current situation, we realize that the building we moved into is in need of upgrades (as would most other buildings in the town). For example, they are currently cooking all the food in a small out building (shack) on the property that is not sanitary or attached to the main building. We believe this is one of the reasons the kids are getting sick. We are now planning to build a proper, sanitary kitchen in the main building. Also, the “city” water periodically shuts off for days at a time and when it resumes, it sometimes will only be on for a few hours. So, we need to install a large water storage tank so we are not affected when the water is turned off. If you would like to help out with either one of these upgrades, you can donate and select “building upgrades” as your designation.

We look forward to posting more information as we get it! Please continue to remember the kids and the Benkerts in your thoughts and prayers.
