Very good news!

February 19, 2010

The meeting is over in the tribes and Lale has returned beaming with pride for what was accomplished.  What started out as a meeting in one village with 60 people ended up being in two separate villages over the weekend and included nearly two hundred people! Lale said that there were people who had killed mingi children in the past crying and repenting for what they had done and in the end everyone there made a pact to try and stop the belief in mingi in the entire 130,000 people that live in the three tribes as soon as possible. Lale is planning another follow up meeting in the coming months to ensure that the progress continues and that the people who made the pact together feel supported.

We are so thankful that the meeting went well and that progress is finally being made, please continue to pray with us that these tribes start to see the light and know that what they are doing is wrong.

Also, Lale met with a family who is pregnant with a mingi child who was planning to kill the child.  They agreed to give over the baby Lale when its born instead of killing it. The mother is 7 months pregnant and so we are expecting to have a newborn in the orphanage soon!

I’m praying that the tribes would be blessed as they step forward in faith to keep the mingi children. I’m praying that their eyes would be opened by the holy spirit and that these children, specifically would be a blessing to the whole tribe and so everyone would see that these children are a blessing and not a curse.

  5. I burst into tears when I read this!!! Praise God for Lale and his willingness to bring the Truth into dark and difficult places. Praise God that the people responded and that hearts are being changed! We are praying that the Truth will continue sink deep down into their hearts, past what their culture and beliefs tell them and that the Truth will find a place to rest there.

I just can’t say how thrilled we are to hear such great news!

Wow. Can you believe that in such a relatively short amount of time (relative to the history of mingi among these peoples) such changes are on the horizon? We should pray that champions like Lale are discovered and mentored in every tongue and tribe. May God give him courage and favor… and humility. ;)

  11. WOW! God does work miracles! Praising God for all the work you all are doing in His name to save those children. What a testament to His power & might. Praising Him for giving Lale the courage to confront the sin and for the tribespeople to be humble enough to listen & repent. So cool!

    Awesome news!!!

Can i ask, how do they decide that a child is mingi while still in the womb, and who usually declares this? What happens to the mother and/or family if they do not agree with the lable on the child? If you would rather not answer i understand.

  13. Really incredible progress! It’s just amazing that these tribal rituals might be changed for so many. Levi…what will eventually happen to the children you care for? Will the children be adopted or even possibly returned to live with the tribes in some cases?
