In only two short months we have doubled the number of kids we have in the orphanage, and Lale tells me that he is likely going to be bringing back more kids with him when he returns from the tribes in the next few days. There is something incredibly fulfilling about knowing that more children are being saved, we will never stop doing whatever it takes to bring these kids to safety. The thing is, when you try and stretch an already limited amount of resources over twice the number of kids its going to get tight. The money squeeze is starting to really put the brakes on our ability to take good care of the kids we have. Just last week we opened our third home where the kids stay and if Lale brings back any more than two or three new kids we are going to have to open a fourth. In one of the homes we are already sleeping two kids to a bed, something that we never wanted to do.
We spoke with a family who stayed with us while they were picking up three adopted kids a few weeks ago and they told us the incredible story of how they raised the huge chunk of money they needed to adopt three siblings at once. There was one idea that they had that really stuck out and we are going to try it to help raise money for the kids here at Drawn From Water.
The idea is simple. We are going to ask you to take a five minute stroll around your house and find one thing that you don’t use any more and sell it in craigslist. Go into your garage and pull out that old treadmill that sits taking up space and put it to use saving kids lives instead of gathering dust. What do you think? Do you have an old dresser or TV that sits in a corner and could be put to good use?

I love that idea! We are actually doing that with a couple items so that we can finish paying for the fees for adoption so that we can bring one of the children home. My kids always ask why everything in life seems to cost so much money. I wonder the same thing. I guess it is an opportunity for us to see God provide and build our faith!

What a great idea! Love it!
On a side note, isn’t it part of the culture to have kids share a bed?

Do you have a number for how many $25 commitments have been made at this point?

Oh Goodness…. just a few weeks ago I decided to do this very thing and then to use the money to give to some different charities that I’ve recently discovered…. and I had decided that I would send the first batch of money I collect to you guys! So, ummmm I guess this is a bit of a confirmation to get that old toaster etc posted pronto!
