Opportunity for real change

December 3, 2009

For the past month or so we have been talking a lot about adoption and the kids we already have, but in reality what we do here is so much more than that, we believe that it would be wrong for us to just take kids in and not be working to stop the harmful practices and beliefs that create these orphans in the first place. When it comes to helping the tribes change and move ahead there is no doubt in our minds that bringing them the gospel is the most effective way to move forward. We believe strongly that these people need God and will change their ways when they see the light.

In the past month we finally started to move forward on our plans for reaching the tribes. We just finished building a church / teaching hall in what is considered to be one of the more important villages in one of the tribes, its where they host elder meetings and most of the high level decisions are made, (sort of like their Washington DC). Lale has spent the better part of the last month living there and working on the building. We were thrilled to hear that they are already meeting in the newly finished building and more than 40 people attended the first services! We could not be more excited about the response we are getting so quickly!

The next steps for our efforts in the tribe are to start sending out teachers who speak the tribal languages who are willing to get their hands dirty and help the tribes in any way that they need. But those things are going to cost money and we are still not quite able to fund the orphanage we already have let alone the evangelistic efforts we believe are so desperately needed.

This is where you come in, what we are looking for is churches who are willing to step up and support the efforts to reach these un-reached people groups. We need churches who will fund things like more church buildings in the other villages and the travel expenses of getting teachers out to the villages who speak the language and can go deep into the word of God with the people who live there. All in all there are more than 70,000 people in the three tribes we are focusing on and its going to take a much more than we have going now to reach them.

The question for you is this. Do you go to a church that might be willing to help? Have you been looking for a place to support real solid evangelistic efforts but don’t know where to start? What we all have before us with this project is a real solid opportunity to make a difference in a people group who have not been reached before.

If you think your church could get behind something like this, please email us and let us know. Right now we are putting together a list of projects that need backing.

Over the next month we will be talking more about the plan we have crafted for the future of both the orphanage and our goals for reaching and training the tribes. We have made a lot of progress on the adoptions and are finally able to start focusing more on building a sustainable lasting project here that will be effective at both saving children and stopping the flow of children in the future.

If you think that your church might be willing to help out with reaching these tribes with the gospel please email me at info@drawnfromwater.org

Thank you!

  1. We go to a very large church with a significant standing commitment to a church in Nicaragua. Unfortunately, they were not willing to consider new mission outreaches when we spoke to them last spring. But, I have a network of friends throughout the country. Would you mind if I posted this to my FB feed to expand the number of people who see the posting?

  2. Post away Carolyn! and everyone!
