Next question…

October 18, 2009

Well first let me tell you a bit about the ride; Jessie called last night and she said they are doing good. Abrehame slept the entire trip, which is good for travel purposes but not a very good sign for a 1 year old…  Later this evening he will be safely in  an excellent hospital and receiving the care he so desperately needs.  We will be taking turns staying with him.  We pray that he will not need to be in there long, I know hospitals have always been scary for our kids and cant imagine how it would feel to a child who just rode in a car for the second time in their life…

In other news, four children have enrolled in the local school and are loving it!  They are the oldest four and needed some outside stimulation, school provides the perfect way for them to get out in the world a bit and not have to do only baby things with the rest of the children.   I hope Jessie was able to get a picture of them in their uniforms, if she did I am going to put it up here.

And the question…

Thank you all so much for your insightful answers on the last one.  I know that your experiences will be able to help the many other families who read this blog and have not yet adopted understand a bit more about the bonding process.

Here is the next one.

Was the process of getting approved and doing all the mountains of paperwork really as bad as everyone says?

  1. The paperwork really turned out to be the easiest part. It is time consuming, but not rocket-science. Any determined and somewhat-organized person can accomplish it with little trouble. It definately should not be a key factor in NOT adopting. Our agency has a yahoo group for those families adopting from certain countries. I recommend finding a group like that, be it through your agency or just from a search of yahoo. It is most helpful to be able to ask a question on the group board and get several answers right away. Your agency is a great resource, but not always as readily available as a BTDT Mom. :)

  2. We became fost-adopt certified through Koinonia Family Services. Although it was plenty of paperwork, taken one at a time, it wasn’t that bad.

  3. It was hard. Appreciably so. It shouldn’t be easy. The part that makes it hard also makes it, not just worthwile, but learned. Educational. and Learned. The paperwork it self is more of a pain, but.. it’s the things that go along with it that encourage you to learn more about ET culture, history, religion etc. It definatley is hard. But only those that shouldn’t go through it – would stop because of it.

  4. my hubby and I are going through the beginning stages of adoption (actually one of the kids in the drawn from water orphange)…we are so excited!
We are just starting our home study documents and i agree with Erica its little steps…so far, although we see how much there is to go, we are not overwhelmed. We are trusting God and taking it one page at a time!
