Social structures

September 6, 2009

We have thought a lot about what it is going to be like for these kids once they are in homes and all we can think is that its going to be a real shock.  The town where the orphanage is as you I am sure figured out by now if you have been following along is a pretty remote place, but compared to the tribes where these children come from its actually pretty sophisticated technologically speaking.  But its interesting, as we think about the place where they come from we actually start to realize that just because they do not have running water and Internet access does not mean that they are not well off.  These tribes have incredibly wonderful social structures.  They care intensely for their neighbors and know so well what it means to be a friend.  Their word is always their bond, I have yet to meet someone from the tribes who would tell you something that was not true, and there is so much more about these people that we have yet to discover.    So even though revolving doors and microwave ovens might be something new for these kids the reality is they might have more to teach the families they are moving into than they have to learn from them….   Just a thought.
