Bale

July 12, 2009

When we first arrived our oldest child ran straight to Bale and said “This is the girl that started it all!”
Since the video (above) was finished a few months back Bale has been known around the world, the funny thing is if you spend a few minutes with Bale you would think that she knew all about her fame.  She has this “do as I say” attitude that somehow makes you feel like you are on her turf.   Bale was the first to come and has thus lived in the home longer than any of the other children.  She has watched the evolution from a simple mission to save the children of the tribes to a full blown children’s home with three nannies, two housekeepers, a cook and a guard.  We are now preparing to move into what will be the third home as we outgrow yet another rental and Bale has been there to see it all.

She was about a year and a half when she came to the home and is growing doing well. It’s funny we noticed the other day that she, like so many of the children we have, is learning to potty train but she was old enough to have started learning when she lived with her family in the tribe.  As you can imagine they do not have diapers so far out in the bush, so what they do is teach the children to go in the same spot every time.  So we always have this little spot in the back yard where Bale goes to do her business.   Makes you think that there are better ways to do things than the diapers we use in America that take over 100 years to biodegrade…   Not that a little pile in the yard would go over that great, but you get what I mean.
