In May 2009 Levi and Jessie moved with their three children to Africa to help get Drawn From Water off the ground. At that time the orphanage was still new but already had 10 children and rescue efforts were in full swing. The Benkert’s, former real estate developers from Sacramento, California had no idea what they were getting into, only that they had a heart to serve and that this was a need they felt called to meet. In their first year Levi and Jessie have adopted one child from the orphanage and have been helping to run the daily ins and outs of the children’s home, managing the finances and blogging on drawnfromwater.org Levi and Jessie are passionate about caring for orphans, they now have four children two of who are adopted and encourage everyone who feels able to that they should adopt. They have no immediate plans of returning to the states and are enjoying every day of this crazy adventure God has called them to.
